Bust the Bus food drive and fundraiser returns for sixth year in the Triad

BackPack Beginnings’ Bust the Bus food drive and fundraiser is returning to Greensboro on June 5 for its sixth year, continuing the fight against child hunger in the Piedmont Triad.

Organized in partnership with Charles Aris, the Greensboro Grasshoppers and Davenport & Company LLC, this year’s event will take place during a Grasshoppers home game outside the Bellemeade Street entrance of First National Bank Field.

Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or make monetary donations. Donations of at least five nonperishable goods or $10 or more earn a chance to spin the prize wheel and win items like Babe’s Bucks and gift cards.

The event offers local businesses an opportunity to gain visibility and foster community engagement through fun incentives while making a meaningful impact.

BackPack Beginnings, a Greensboro-based nonprofit, uses the funds and goods collected through this annual event to provide essential resources to local children and families in need.

“Bust the Bus is a shining example of what happens when a community comes together to support children in need,” said Parker White, founder and executive director of BackPack Beginnings.

In 2024, the event raised $22,348 and collected 1,536 pounds of food. With rising costs of groceries and living expenses, organizers hope this year’s contributions will exceed those totals and reach even more families.

Additional sponsors, including Genuity Concepts, Thomas Built Buses, 107.5 KZL and Granville Capital, have helped build early momentum and inspire community support ahead of the big day.

“It’s inspiring to watch a humble dining room idea grow into the transformative organization it is today, addressing food and resource insecurities among families in our community,” said Cecelia Anderson, branch manager at Davenport & Company LLC.
